Compare and Contrast

We have spent the last four days Comparing and Contrasting 9/11 and Pearl Harbor. So far this lesson has been a great success. The students are developing the ability to analyze historical events and come to their own conclusion. The final product will be a three paragraph essay that the students put together in class. Reply to this post if you have any questions.

Announcements

Parent-Teacher conferences are today and tomorrow. Due to my coaching schedule, I will not be in my room until about 6:30 today and 5:30 tomorrow. Those are estimates, it depends on when the games finish.

Biome projects are due Monday (9/30). About half of the kids have already turned in their essays. They had four days to work on it in class and if they did not finish it, it is their responsibility to have it completed and printed out when they come to class on Monday.

Thank you and hope to see you this week!

Test and Project

Originally the test was going to be tomorrow (Thursday), but the review has taken longer than expected so I pushed it back to Friday. The students know this, but I just wanted to post it to prevent any confusion. Tomorrow we will be focusing on the short answer and map portion of the test. I cannot post the map portion on the blog, but students should be coming home with a photocopied map they can study.

Many students have already finished the essay portion of their project. I received some excellent essays and look forward to reading more over the weekend. We spend four days in the computer lab researching and typing. If the essay has not been completed, it is the responsibility of the student to make sure it is completed and turned in by 9/30. If you haven't started working on your dioramas, this weekend would be a great time. There are many great ideas if you use youtube or google images.

Thank you and have a great rest of your week!

Mr. Ballard

Biome Update

We have been hard at work on the biome essay in the computer lab. Monday is our last day in the computer lab, it might be a good idea to make sure that your student has a flash drive by Monday if they don't have one yet. Feel free to ask any questions in the comment section and I will respond ASAP.

Biome information

Here are the two best website for biomes:

http://www.enchantedlearning.com/biomes/

http://www.blueplanetbiomes.org/

The two websites should provide you with everything you need to complete the assignment. I will be teaching the students how to navigate these tomorrow.

Latitude and Longitude

Today we began learning how to locate places using latitude and longitude. For many students, this is the most difficult thing we do in class throughout the year. If you have an atlas or globe, it would be very helpful to practice at home.
